After recently rejoining the Usenet community after a year-long hiatus, I
was horrified to see what had happened to the entire alt.* hierarchy.  Since
I was a regular contributor to alt.sex.cthulhu (Cthulhu fhtagn! Ia!) I was
particularly saddened to see that the newsgroup had been completely buried
under an avalanche of sex line "SORORITY SUCK SISTERS XXX" spam.  The 
newsgroup was effectively dead.

When my frustration level got high enough I decided to help revive the group,
and picked up my dull and rusty lance to do battle.  I starting downloading
every piece of spam on the newsgroup and checking the headers.  I fired off
a piece of e-mail to each respective postmaster.  In three weeks, I was
able to get the number of spammers from 20-30 a day down to 3-5 a day.  This
has made a sizable dent, but still leaves an astonishing amount of spam.

In the course of doing battle with the spammers and posting progress reports
in alt.sex.cthulhu, I ran afoul of Chris Lewis' spambot a couple of times.
After sending him a couple of nastygrams and getting a couple in return, I
realized after asking around that he is, in fact, a NetGod<tm> and is one of
the people keeping newsgroups like alt.sex.cthulhu from being swallowed alive
by people like Sexzilla.  I wish him God-, er, Cthulhuspeed. ;-)

The problem is this: I'm on the National Capital FreeNet, so I have no actual
telnet access.  I've gone as far as I can by e-mailing postmasters.  The ones
that remain are infamous spammers like vol.it, gte.net, and earthlink.net.
Is there anything else I can do with the resources I have?  Frankly, I'm
getting tired of spending two hours a night e-mailing postmasters who don't
give a damn that their users are vandalizing our newsgroup.

Incidentally, I am amazed to speechlessness that there are people who
actually *support* the spammers.  Some people, like me, have no access to
things like killfiles.  I'm at 2400 bps, so paging through screen after
screen of badly-spelled sex line desecration is unbelievably tedious.  It
is beyond me how anyone in their right mind could equate Sexzilla killing
what was once a very popular newsgroup through spam-bombing with freedom of
speech.  The answer, of course, is that these people are not in their right
minds.  And while we at alt.sex.cthulhu have nothing but the utmost respect
for crazy medieval arab authors, we would dearly love to introduce the owner
of Sexzilla to the wrong end of a shoggoth.  Not that there's a right end, of
